OK, so this week’s recipe is going to be a little different. Now given our local weather here this week a cold sweet treat is probably not the most useful but as versatile as this recipe is I still felt it was fitting for today. This is a recipe that is kind of my go to when I want something sweet to drink but I don’t want to just have a bottle of pop. It’s my favorite smoothie recipe. I use it for breakfast, or a pre or post workouts pick me up. I’ll even have it on a hot day to just help cool off. Now there are ways to tweak it just in case you’re not a big fan of berries. As we get closer to spring and as some of those new year’s resolutions start to fade away I thought this is something simple you can do to help revive those resolutions or just give you something new to try.
1 ½ cup strawberries (hulled)
1 cup cherries (pitted)
1 cup raspberries
1 cup pomegranate juice
½ cup blueberries
Put all the ingredients in a blender & blend until smooth.
Other variations for this could be to use orange juice or maybe lemonade/lemon juice. Also you could substitute all the berries for an equivalent amount of your favorite bag of frozen mixed berries. I’ll do that in the winter when getting good fresh berries becomes a challenge. Another alternative is to add vanilla yogurt, vanilla whey protein or a banana roughly chopped to help boost the protein or fiber of this smoothie. Like I said, it’s very versatile and I can always add this or that to tweak for whatever purpose I need at the time. So swing by your freezer section on your next trip to the grocery store and enjoy this simple little pick-me-up.
