Quote of the Day

Halfway through another work week and another Quote of the Day. One of my biggest routine struggles has been to create a habit of regular exercise. See, something I struggled with for a long time was the idea of motivation. In my head I believed that if I were motivated enough that it would be easy to make the decision to get up in the morning to workout. I would get down on myself when I didn’t feel the motivation to do it. I felt that I must not want it bad enough. I thought there must be a better workout routine or schedule to follow because I wasn’t motivated enough to do a current one with consistency. What I’ve come to understand is that motivation can inspire me to try something new, it can spark me to make a change or do something differently. It can be a light in the darkness that provides me something new to aim at. It is dedication that helps me choose to leave the comfort of my bed when the alarm goes off so I can workout. It is dedication that leads me to make the right choice when the easy choice seems so much better. That understanding didn’t mean that I suddenly didn’t struggle with my morning workout routine. Quite the contrary. I still struggle with that but understanding that it isn’t about being inspired to do it but about making the commitment and making the choice to do what is right. Understanding that took away shame and doubt and replaced it with responsibility. It was my call, it was on me to be dedicated and to make the right decision. What I have come to believe is that, like most things in life, it isn’t about chance but about choice. Take the opportunity of today to make sure your habits will keep you going towards your goals. It won’t be easy but you got this. I know you can do it. Have a blessed day, y’all! Stay safe, stay dry, and enjoy another beautiful day.

Motivation is what gets you started. Habit is what keeps you going.
