Here we are again at the beginning of another work week and another Quote of the Day. Exercise and activity, to me, are misused. See, I’ve often heard that I can’t outrun my fork. The sentiment is clear that when it comes to be healthier and losing weight that nutrition is where a majority of the work gets done. Now, I don’t disagree with that concept but I do think that it downplays the importance of having a healthy balanced active lifestyle as well. When you pair that with another view I long shared about exercise, “Will work for food.” I am not sure exactly where this idea came from but I distinctly remember believing that my motivation for working out was only to allow me to be more lenient on how I was eating. The less active I was the more careful I had to be with my dinner plate. Both of those ideas helped to shape a very negative and unhealthy view of activity and exercise in my mind. It has been a long road, one that I’m still on, trying to reshape that mental connection. I think it’s why when, at a meeting, we talk about choosing activity that is fun and not doing things I don’t enjoy it becomes a struggle. Because I have to try and rectify these 2 different ideas in my head. I believe part of my healthier lifestyle journey has been to redefine my relationship with food. I am now also starting to believe that another part of that journey for me will be to help redefine my relationship to the gym and to an active lifestyle. Have a blessed day, y’all! Stay safe, stay dry and enjoy another beautiful day.
